Ashton United FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Andy Clayton as Club General Manager. Recently retired from a senior role in IT Hardware & Service Management within Computer Centre’s for a major British Telecommunications company, Andy joins the club, in a voluntary capacity, with immediate effect.
Joint Chairman David Burke said, ‘Andy will fit well within the Ashton United family. His knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our organisation and his humility, sense of humour and ‘get things done’ attitude is exactly what is needed to help drive us further forward.’
‘Born and bred in Saddleworth and now living in Oldham with wife, Alison and grown-up son, Matthew who currently does the Pitch-side Announcer role at home games and often provides radio commentary for away fixtures, I have always been a keen football fan (Oldham Athletic – please do not hold that against me) but have never been good enough to play at any level other than at school, where my position was goalkeeper.
I retired recently from a long career in IT Hardware & Service Management within Computer Centre’s for a major British Telecommunications company. Outside of work my other passion is Brass Bands, I am a Bass player with Greenfield Brass Band where I also hold the organisational role of Secretary / Chairman of the Band.
I started coming to Hurst Cross last season, when attending Football League games was suspended due to COVID and I was immediately taken by the friendliness and professionalism of the club.
I hope that my business skillset will allow me to support and realise the ideas that David, Jonathan and the rest of the Board have in taking Ashton United to the next level, both in the community and on the football field.’
