Colne too strong for Robins
Colne proved too strong for the visiting Robins in an open encounter at the Sovereign Play Stadium. The game got off to a bright start as Liam Tomsett saw his header at the far post blocked from Chris Rowney’s deep cross and on 7 minutes a trialist hit a loose ball with only the crossbar saving the hosts.
A great diagonal pass from Josh Wilson then put Connor Hughes in for a first time effort just past the far post and the opener then arrived as Sefton Gonzalez’ lay off was converted at the second attempt by Chippendale after a good block by Worsnop. Ten minutes before the break John Pritchard equalised with a 25 yard free kick slightly deflected after Rowney had been fouled and Wilson’s shot then also deflected narrowly past the post.
Ten minutes after the break and Colne skipper Pugh conceded a penalty at the by line against Pritchard which was comfortably slide home by a trialist but the lead was only to last 4 minutes as Makinson levelled things up again after Gonzalez’s header had been blocked and with ten minutes left the winner arrived in the shape of a pinpoint pass from Baker which allowed Gonzalez to fire home a fine left foot finish.
