Robins net first home win

Ashton finally achieved their first home win of the season with a convincing victory against their fellow strugglers. In the first 2 minutes Joe Maguire was felled by Josh Wilson’s overlapping cross needing to be replaced by Sam Topplis. Halfway through the half Jordan Slew’s cross won a corner off Brandon Horton and Nicky Clee’s delivery was helped past the far post by Josh Wilson from a free header. Lufudo’s cross was then blocked out to Anghel who sent a flashing effort across goal and Clee’s cross saw Anghel’s challenge need the ball to be headed off the line by Horton.

Kingsley James then headed the best chance of the half past the far post from Hannah’s delivery but the opener arrived just before the break as another Clee delivery from a dead ball was neatly headed home by centre half Gianluca Havern and within 2 minutes of the restart the hosts had doubled their advantage with Casian Anghel working his way along the by line and seeing his deep cross headed home by Wilson. Five minutes later Liam Tomsett’s pass from midfield released Slew who cut back on to his right foot before placing his effort home.

Allott squeezed his cross over for Trinity and saw Clarke’s shot deflected out and the corner came back to Russell who placed his attempt too high. The Robins were denied a clean sheet with a harsh looking penalty awarded against Tom Field as a corner hit him and Ashley Worsfold sent Worsnop the wrong way. Myron Gibbons volleyed past the near post from Horton’s cross  and at the other end Tomsett set up a goal chance for Tames who stumbled as he tried to beat the last defender. Lufudo then reached the by line and fired a cross which beat everyone and Field could have made things more emphatic firing Lewis Walters pass straight at Robson after a quick break.

Ashton Utd: Worsnop, Lufudo, Clee, Hunt, Havern, Field, Rowney, Gonzales (Tomsett 46), Wilson (Tames 61), Anghel (Walters 65), Slew.  SNU: Cottam, Sheridan.
