Robins left looking for first win

Ashton are still looking for their first win of the campaign after the visitors took all 3 points at a sunny Hurst Cross. Familiar faces were in the visitors’ line up in the shape of Kallum Mantack, Mark Lees & Craig Hobson but it was one of the Robins’ new boys who almost got them off to a flyer hitting a loose ball from the edge of the area which glanced away off the crossbar.

Liam Tomsett then collected a rebound before forcing a low save from Fojticek and Kyle Harrison dwelt on a loose ball for Ashton allowing Scott Bakkor to fire home with the ref blowing up for a foul. On 12 minutes Bakkor’s advance into the area was stopped by Pritchard conceding a spot kick which Worsnop saved well only to see the ball rebound to the winger who couldn’t miss. Just past the half hour Bakkor’s right wing cross saw Hobson’s header needing to be palmed away and Pritchard’s 30 yard free kick was comfortably held.

Josh Wilson replaced Ryan Crowther at the break and immediately hit a loose ball over after a scramble in the area. Mantack then had to be alert at the far post just getting to Clee’s long throw ahead of Pritchard and a long goal kick by Worsnop saw Wilson’s flick on not lifted high enough by Tames to get over Fojticek. Tames then headed straight at the keeper but just before the hour Hobson won the ball in midfield and spread the play wide to Kengni before advancing to convert his cross close in.

Hobson’s pass then gave Valentine the chance which was touched away by Worsnop with Hunt getting to the loose ball just in time and Clee sliced Hooper’s cross past the near post. Hooper then had a fierce right foot effort blocked at the near post and another attempt was blocked close in as little appeared to be falling Ashton’s way.

A final attempt saw Clee’s pass guided just past the far post by Smith with Freeland booked for catching Clee in the build up. With Ashton now propping up the whole league things don’t look to get any easier with the visit of Matlock Town next who currently sit top.

Team: Worsnop, Harrison, Clee, Chalmers, Hunt, Sheridan, Pritchard (Hooper 56), Rowney, Tames (Smith 65), Tomsett, Crowther (Wilson 46). SNU: Cottom, Havern.
