Ashton United will host Stalybridge Celtic in the first round of the Integro league cup on Tuesday night.
Celtic will be making the short ten-minute drive, hoping for the same result they picked up back in August at Hurst Cross where they came away with a two-nil win, in the league.
The Robins have not got a good record against Tuesday’s opposition, failing to win in the last five meetings with the club.
Since then it is fair to say they have enjoyed the best of the league out of the two as they currently sit in seventh place, having just beat Bamber Bridge three-two and will have the right momentum coming into the game.
The Robins fell to a one-nil defeat at the weekend against Matlock Town in the second round of the FA Trophy and so this will be a new opportunity for a fresh start in a new competition and to get back on track.
Manager Jody Banim was pleased with the performance the team displayed against Matlock but was frustrated about the loss after ‘dominating the game’, so the team will look at that positive to take into this game.
The only thing separating the two sides on the weekend was a penalty, it was upfront where Ashton lacked the final ball to get over the line and will be something the manager and players will be working on in the short period in between the fixtures.
Josh Wilson is the top scorer this season with seven goals and will be looking to add to his tally against the Bridge at home.
Tuesday night under the lights at home is the perfect time to get revenge on Stalybridge so come down and support the lads in a must-win game!
