Ashton travel to Droylsden for the first round of Manchester Premier CUP.
Ashton United will travel to the Butcher’s Arms Ground to face Droylsden in the first round of the Manchester Premier Cup on Tuesday night.
The Robins will look to get back on their perch and on to winning ways again after a disappointing six-two loss to Spennymoor Town in the FA Cup, over the weekend.
Ashton boasts the most titles ever won in the competition having won it 15 times overall and their opponents, The Bloods, are the second most successful having won it 13 times.
United last won the Cup back in 2003, whilst Droylsden claimed the trophy more recently in 2011, beating the Robins four-three in extra time, so Ashton will look to get some revenge.
Jody Banim identified the issue United had defensively on Saturday in the post-match interview and is an area they will need to work on in training in preparation for the game on Tuesday night.
New signing John Lufudu did not feature against Spennymoor as he was cup-tied but he will be back in the squad this week.
The manager is keen to do well in this competition as there is silverware up for grabs, but in order to do so they need to put the ‘set back behind us and move forward.’
Spennymoor are currently 11th in the Northern Premier League North West Division, winning only three times, drawing four times and lost three times as well, so it has been a mixed start to their league season, similar to the Robins’.
