Another Saturday, another FA Cup tie for Ashton United where this time the Robins will host Spennymoor Town FC at Hurst Cross in the third qualifying round.
After an emphatic win away from home, on Tuesday night, against Grantham Town, there is a lot of positives to take into the tie.
A win would seal off a good week for Jody Banim and the club has brought in three new players who all featured in the four-nil win mid-week. John Lufudu and keeper Lloyd Allinson started with Allinson keeping a clean sheet on his debut. Striker, Jordan Slew was the third signing for United and came off the bench to net and seal the win for Ashton.
The Moors are members of the National League North currently sitting in 11th with three wins and four draws and losses each. In the second qualifying round, Spennymoor thumped opponents Lancaster City five-nil, and Ashton United beat Pontefract Collieries by one goal to nil.
Robin’s Boss Jody Banim said in his post-match interview that the way his side played on Tuesday night ‘should give us massive confidence.’
Banim also pointed out that the Robins have only lost one game in the previous eight games played across all competitions and is a form that will give the team plenty of encouragement to go and complete the job on Saturday.
Conor Hughes limped off on Tuesday night and the manager said that he was hopeful that it was just a slight knock but Hughes will be assessed nearer the time to see if he will be fit for Saturday.
The Robins are looking to inflict an FA Cup upset on higher league opposition Spennymoor Town on Saturday so make sure you get down and support Ashton in what is a massive game for everyone connected to the club.
