The Robins are back at Hurst Cross this weekend as they clash with Mickleover Sports for the first time this season. This game promises to be an enthralling encounter as the Robins look to get back to winning ways.
Mickleover Sports was a brilliant fixture for Ashton United last season, across the 2 games the Robins earnt 6 points with an aggregate score of 4-1. The last time the two sides competed against one another was the final Robin’s game before lockdown and ended 3-1. Josh Wilson was the star of that show back in March when he scored a hat-trick which included 2 penalties.
It’s been a tough week for Ashton United so far, on Tuesday the Robins were edged out of a point by Atherton Collieries in a 1-0 defeat. A controversial early red card changed the game as Ashton United fell to 10 men, However Clegg’s side battled valiantly but could not get a reward for their hard work.
This weekend’s opposition currently sit 5 positions clear of the Robin’s mainly due to their 3-2 victory over Warrington Town. Mickleover secured a brilliant result last weekend stopping the undefeated Warrington Town, both of Mickleover’s forwards got goals last weekend therefore both Bacon and Beavon with be on the Robin’s radar.
Michael Clegg had plenty to say in his last interview, the manager had lots to say about the referee’s poor performance midweek appearing bewildered about the official’s decision-making process early on. Michael also expressed his concern over player omissions for the Mickleover game with the squad struggling with injuries and suspensions.
