The FA Cup qualifiers are back at Hurst’s Cross this weekend as Ashton take on Pontefract Collieries in the second round of qualifying.
This match comes after The Robins won their first game of the season last Tuesday against Tadcaster Albion in the first-round replay, securing their spot in this weekend’s second round. In addition to getting their first win of the season, the boys also secured their first league win away at Mickleover Sports at the weekend, winning 1-0 after being brought down to 10 men in the first 20 minutes. Without doubt, it’s been a great couple of weeks for Ashton and the team are looking in a much better form, which is a refreshing sight for the fans.
So how about this weekend’s opposition? Well, Pontefract Collieries are currently sat in eighth position in the North West division of the Northern League and have won their last four games, including; a 3-1 victory to Glossop North End in the last round of the FA Cup Qualifiers and their most recent win being a 4-1 victory to Droylsden in the Northern League. Pontefract play their home games at the Harratt Nissan Stadium but will travel to Hursts Cross this Saturday to face The Robins.
The Robins are without forward/centre half Josh Wilson after he was sent off against Mickleover and are facing a Pontefract who are in strong form at the moment, making this a tough fixture for the Home side. However, with Ashton looking the strongest they’ve ever been this season it will be a good clash and one that Ashton could get their third win of the season from.
Kick-off for this Saturday’s game is at 3pm at Hurst Cross so get yourselves down there and give the guys the support they deserve after a successful couple of weeks, let’s get behind the all in their quest to proceed to the next round of The Emirates FA Cup!
