Colne Vs Ashton United match Report

Colne too strong for Robins

Colne proved too strong for the visiting Robins in an open encounter at the Sovereign Play Stadium. The game got off to a bright start as Liam Tomsett saw his header at the far post blocked from Chris Rowney’s deep cross and on 7 minutes a trialist hit a loose ball with only the crossbar saving the hosts.

A great diagonal pass from Josh Wilson then put Connor Hughes in for a first-time effort just past the far post and the opener then arrived as Sefton Gonzalez’ lay off was converted at the second attempt by Chippendale after a good block by Worsnop. Ten minutes before the break John Pritchard equalised with a 25-yard free-kick slightly deflected after Rowney had been fouled and Wilson’s shot then also deflected narrowly past the post.

Ten minutes after the break and Colne skipper Pugh conceded a penalty at the byline against Pritchard which was comfortably slide home by a trialist but the lead was only to last 4 minutes as Makinson levelled things up again after Gonzalez’s header had been blocked and with ten minutes left the winner arrived in the shape of a pinpoint pass from Baker which allowed Gonzalez to fire home a fine left-foot finish.

Team: Wornsop, Harrison, Clee, Havern, Trialist, Rowney, Tomsett, Wilson, Pritchard (Anghel 78), Trialist (Crowther 70), Hughes, SNU: Chalmers, Trialist, Woodford, Cottam.
