Farsley Celtic Match Preview

Farsley Celtic Match Preview

As the Robins continue their pre-season preparation, the next clash sees them come up against Farsley Celtic this Saturday at 3pm at Hurst Cross.

Following a goal-filled second half at Trafford that saw Ashton come away with a 2-2 draw, the team will be wanting to build on the performance before the first competitive fixture of the season on the 12th September against Squire’s Gate in the FA Cup Preliminary round.

Farsley Celtic will enter the fixture full of confidence following back-to-back victories against West Yorkshire side, Golcar United and Scarborough Athletic, and with the Farsley attack notching up three goals in both games, Saturday’s clash will provide a stern test for the Robins defence.

The last meeting of the sides came in May 2018, where the Robins ran out 2-1 victors in a league fixture, and despite Saturday’s clash only being a friendly, Ashton will be hoping for a similar outcome as the club aims to build momentum before the season opener.

In terms of key players for the Robins, Tom Bentham’s vital goal against Trafford has provided Michael Clegg with a selection headache coming into the fixture. Additionally, after the game the manager hinted that a potential partnership between Bentham and fellow striker Louis Almond could be tested, and with both strikers in such fine form, Saturday could provide a perfect opportunity.

As well as mentioning a new potential partnership, Clegg also commented on the prospect of facing Farsley Celtic, stating that they will be a “tough team” to face, but is hoping his side will “play on the front foot and frustrate them”.

With the new season just over the horizon, be sure to come down to Hurst Cross this Saturday and cheer on the team as they continue their preparations.
