Lufudu the Star turn

Ashton Utd 3 Irlam FC 1  Pre-season Friendly 5.9.20

Lufudu the Star turn

Ashton’s penultimate friendly saw them run out comfortable winners against their last-minute opponents with full back John Lufudu turning in a man of the match performance.

The action opened with Louis Almond glancing a header past the far post from a Ben Hardcastle cross and after 5 minutes Michael Brewster collected a knockdown from Tom Bentham and forced a good tip over from the visiting keeper. It was Almond who fired home on 16 minutes having made space for himself from Millenic Alli’s delivery.

The second period started with glorious chances for both sides as Callum Nicholas immediately set up Max Bardsley-Rowe who blazed over for the visitors when well placed and at the other end Sam Sheridan robbed Andy Langford but put his effort just wide.

On the hour Lufudu finished confidently after running on to Jake Cottrell’s wide pass and 8 minutes later another cross from the full back provided an unmissable header for Josh Wilson. The visitors got a consolation goal as Mark Derbyshire squeezed home from a tight angle after Joel Bembo-Leta had stretched Ashton’s trialist goalkeeper with a misplaced backpass. Hardcastle saw his effort just denied close in from Brad Lynch’s left wing delivery and Sheridan blazed wide after Jake Cottrell had won the ball and the final action saw Oscar Campbell get hold of his shot forcing a decent save out of Ashton’s trialist.
