Macclesfield FC Vs Ashton United match report

Macclesfield Town 2 Ashton United 2   Pre-Season Friendly  3.7.21

Robins rescue a draw

A late own goal saw the Robins rescue a draw from their opening friendly at the stadium. Hosts Macclesfield will be plying their trade at North West Counties level in the new season and the action got underway on their 4G pitch as an attempted clearance hit Jack Redshaw and was just recovered by the home keeper.

A mazy run by Ryan Rogers then saw his cross fisted away by Hartley and Rogers cut inside but steered a deflected effort off target. Former Ashton full-back Curtis Obeng then got carried away firing well over from 25 yards and Redshaw saw his free-kick missed at the far post before his next attempt was beaten away at the near post.

Just past the half-hour, Redshaw came closer still as his free-kick from just outside the area came down off the crossbar before the danger was cleared. Rogers made a great run from halfway after the break but was just blocked at the last and fellow forward Edy Maieco then showed how to do it as he ran past several challenges to open the scoring. 3 minutes later and the Silkmen doubled their advantage as Coker’s left-wing cross was helped home for an own goal by Tom Spratt.

The comeback started as a ball broke in midfield to Harvey Macadam and he advanced confidently before beating the home keeper and matters were levelled 3 minutes from time as a right-wing corner was helped into the home net by Sanogo.

Ashton Utd: Hartley, Azam, Warren, Spratt, Raynes, Tserpes, Brewster, Macadam, Bentham Redshaw, Hardcastle. Subs: Rowney, Hunt, Hudson, Whalley, Ntula, trialist.
