Ashton extended their unbeaten run to 3 matches with a hard fought draw against a Radcliffe team who put a stop to their own losing run. With 3 familiar faces in the opposition, the Robins showed an unchanged line up and made the brighter start as Louis Almond won an early corner and then failed to make any clear contact on John Pritchard’s left wing cross.
With 9 minutes on the clock Chris Rowney’s delivery from the left was met by Liam Tomsett’s twisting header which sent the ball into the far side of the net leaving Martin with no chance. Swaby-Neavin’s cross was then cleared by Lufudu before Haywood fired the loose ball wide and Winter knocked Rowney off the ball leading to Pritchard’s free kick being deflected out for a corner.
Liam Ellis then cut inside after picking up Richard Smith’s interception and brought a tumbling save out of Hartley and after Dolan’s shot had been blocked Swaby-Neavin’s near post cross was helped home by McKnight for the equaliser. The second half opened with a great move reaching Rowney whose effort was tipped away and Pritchard fired over as a ball reached him on the left wing.
Rokka’s free kick was tipped over for Radcliffe before a fine move saw McKnight play Ellis into the clear from where he shot wastefully over. On the hour sub Rodney set up Brewster who steered his effort disappointingly wide and McKnight played Ennis through again with Josh Wilson across to block. The hosts could have grabbed the points as Lufudu’s foul out wide saw McKnight’s free kick just touched away by Hartley with Winter’s follow-up blocked.
Team: Hartley, Lufudu, Pritchard, Wilson, Hunt, Rowney, Brewster, Sheridan, Almond (Rodney 56), Hardcastle (Tames 63), Tomsett (Hughes 81). SNU: Havern, Rigby.
