Robins Looking to Make it Five Unbeaten

Ashton United welcome Mickleover Sports to Hurst Cross this Tuesday for some late night Northern Premier League action. The Robin’s aim to continue their fantastic form and increase their unbeaten run to 5 games, a brilliant reflection of the Michael Clegg revolution.

The rocking Robin’s will hope to complete a clean sweep over Mickleover having won the reverse fixture back in September it was a tightly contested 1-0 victory for Ashton and marked the robin’s first win of the season. Midfielder Aaron Smith was the lone goal scorer that day finishing comfortably after a fine solo run.

It was a weekend to remember for the Ashton United as they comfortably beat Scarborough Athletic. It was a brilliant performance from all the Robin’s but none more so than skipper Josh Wilson who added to his incredible season tally with a brace. The first was an incredible volley that left the keeper as well as the Robin’s fans in disbelief, the goal came early in the first half and set the Robin’s into cruise control. A second half penalty brought out the best once again in Mr. Reliable as he grabbed his second banking the Robin’s 3 point although not without influential saves from the now 2-time Player of the Month Greg Hartley.

Elsewhere in the Northern Premier League it was Saturday sadness for Mickleover who were dealt a humbling 4-0 loss courtesy of FC United of Manchester, the loss left them in 15th in the league table only 3 positions above Ashton United. A victory for Ashton would continue the teams climb and could see the squad rise as high as 17th. The 4-0 defeat only added to the teams recent defensive woes making it 11 goals conceded in just 4 games, a statistic that will surely bring confidence to Ashton’s forward line including the in-form Josh Wilson however the Robin’s may be without one of their main goal threats as Louis Almond was injured early into this weekend’s game.

Manager Michael Clegg touched on Almond’s injury in his recent post-match interview and addressed the injury as a recurring knee problem although with the early precautionary substitution Michael is confident that injury is minor and won’t influence the fantastic forwards season to a great extent. Elsewhere in the interview, the manager talked about his pride in the squad’s quality and form recently, something he hopes to carry through to the Mickleover game and the rest of the season.

A 3rd consecutive home game for the Robin’s this Tuesday is a blessing for the club and the fans as we aim to bring the best football to you every week, we hope to see you on Tuesday Night for another excellent 90 minutes.
