Ashton United vs Matlock Town
This Saturday, Ashton travel over the Peak District to face Matlock Town in the F.A Trophy.
The Robins come into this weekend’s fixture on a high note after last week’s 2-1 victory over Buxton gave them an unbeaten run of 3 games!
Ashton are now 17th in the Northern Premier League table, having 15 points after playing 13 games. In comparison, Matlock Town are 6th with 21 points and have played 2 more games than Ashton.
The Proctor Cars Stadium is home to Matlock Town and is described by the club as “One of the most picturesque grounds in the country”. However so far this week, two of their matches have been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Matlock have a wide history of success, with most recent honours of winning the Derbyshire Senior Cup in the seasons of 2014/15 and 2016/17.
The last time Matlock played was an away fixture to Carlton Town on the 30th October, which they won 2-1. The Robins will need to give it everything they’ve got if they’re to take the victory and manager Jody Banim has full confidence in his team, “I’m confident against anybody in our league and if we show the right resilience like we currently are now, I certainly fancy our chances against Matlock”.
In other news, in last weeks post-match interview, Jody also explained that Connor Hughes “should be back in contention” for this weeks game. He also said that he is feeling positive about how the squad has developed in the recent weeks and is “excited about the options he is going to have in a couple of weeks”.
Morale is certainly high for The Robins and now its the fans turn to keep the positivity flowing and get behind the squad this weekend.
