Whitby Town 2 Ashton United 0 Pitching In Northern Premier League 4.11.2020
Robins pay Penalty
Two second half goals were enough to see the hosts home at the Towbar Express stadium in what may be the last league action for a while. Harvey Macadam was making his full debut for the Robins and Liam Tomsett could have put them ahead in the first minute as Josh Wilson played him in and he cut inside before hitting a rebound over the top.
At the other end Cooke’s pullback found Bradley Mills firing too high from the edge of the area before the game became somewhat becalmed on what was obviously a very bobbly surface. Ex-Ashton striker Jacob Hazel then saw an effort deflect through to Hartley and Josh Wilson robbed Rowe before heading Pritchard’s resulting free kick too high.
After the break Tomsett intercepted a back pass but saw Rowney’s effort blocked from his pull back and a free kick for Whitby saw Hazel volley past the angle after Bembo-Leta’s attempted clearance. Hazel then saw a right foot effort palmed away from Heaney’s pass but from the resulting corner Wilson was adjudged to have fouled Ible and Giles confidently converted from the spot.
A quick break saw Macadam’s decent hit deflect wide off Tomsett and Tom Bentham’s back heel from Almond’s cross hit the side netting. Hazel saw a free kick held but it then confirmed not to be the Robins’ night as Hawkins made a run into the area and saw his back heel to Fewster result in the sub’s shot deflecting in off Raynes.
