The Robins travel away to Stalybridge Celtic on Wednesday in search of starting the New Year with three points.
The 13 minute drive to Celtic is not the easiest fixture to start the year off as they have found form recently. In the last five games, the Celts have won three and also have lost just once.
The Robins come into the game having only won one league game in the last five, losing the other four. However fans would agree that performances under new manager, Micheal Clegg have been promising.
Travelling fans should keep their eye on forwards Darius Osei and Craig Hobson. Hobson the former Robin has netted 9 goals in total this season and teammate, Osei, has found the back of the net 11 times.
Stalybridge go into the New Year in sixth place and will be looking to climb further up the league throughout the rest of the season. The Robins will also be looking to climb the table but in a different way, as they start the year in 21st place, getting a result against a team in a high position would be the right place to start.
The last time the two teams met was in the Integro League Cup, where Ashton fell short in a 2-1 loss The last time the two met in the league was at Hurst cross earlier this season where again the visitors ran away 2-0 winners with Scott Bakkor scoring a penalty and Craig Hobson grabbing the second of the game.
Manager Micheal Clegg is happy with his sides recent performances and thinks his side have been unlucky not to get the right results. He has dubbed Lufudu to be Ashton United’s very own Wan-Bissaka as he has ‘high energy levels’ and is a player that impressed Clegg after Saturday’s narrow defeat to FC United of Manchester.
What other way to spend New Years Day than watching your beloved Ashton United who are playing just around the corner? Come down to watch the Robins battle it out with neighbours Stalybridge Celtic for a much needed three league points.
