Ashton United will face Ramsbottom away in the penultimate game of pre-season. The Robins will be looking to step up their preparations for the first game of the season as it draws ever closer.
Ashton’s midweek opposition are a lower league team but does not mean it will be an easy one, especially being an away game. The last few results have not been positive ones but do not mean all the performances have been bad. The last game saw the Robins lose narrowly to Colne in the 80th minute, three goals to two.
The Rams did enjoy their last pre-season game beating their opposition, Newcastle Town, by three goals to nil. New signing Daniel Naidole scored two of Ramsbottom’s goals that day so the striker is one for Ashton to look out for.
Both of Ashton’s goals came from set-pieces, John Pritchard converted from a free-kick and a trialist putting away a penalty, maybe a strong point we could work on for the new season ahead.
Eleven days is not long for Ashton to wait for the new season where they will host Atherton Collieries, and so this game and the next will be vital for Jody Banim in making sure his team are all ready for life back in the Northern Premier League.
