Next up for the Robins is Matlock Town at home. Given our winless run this season, Matlock is arguably the toughest team to play at this time given their unbeaten start to the season.
Ashton fell to yet another defeat on Monday losing two-nil to Stalybridge Celtic. Matchday five will be a tough game for Ashton, who will have to dig much deeper than what they have been to get a result against the Gladiators, as Matlock is also known as. As the current undefeated team in the league so far the name is applicable.
Last season they finished 15th as well as the season before that, during the 2017/18 season, where United did the double over them beating them two-one away and winning by three goals to nil at home, so let’s hope for the same again on Saturday.
Jody Banim, his staff, and players will all know that they will have to dig deep for a result on Saturday and will be well aware of the task ahead of them against the Derbyshire club. This game will see first place play last place.
Matlock Town has had several different goal scorers so far, four to be specific, and so are a threat from a number of different positions on the field. Scoring five and conceding only one goal so far. However, they beat their opponents by one goal to nil for the first three games and by two goals to one in their last game. Ashton has only scored one goal less than Matlock but unfortunately conceded a few too many.
Your continued support means a lot to the team, and they are looking forward to seeing you again at Hurst Cross on Saturday. If you cannot make it down on Saturday our commentary team will be there to guide you through the match as it happens.
